Speaking as a developer ... transaction logs are fickle bitches, if you even have them. Databases r serious business.

It's impossible to just say "Oh, they have both versions of the database, it would be a cinch to merge them!", because it doesn't work that way.
Most of all, serious database work takes time. Lots of time. And there's no guarantee that the logs on the new system are intact, or if glitches in the logic and handling caused extreme data corruption.
