Someone on the BB said that it had hit the immunocompromised already in mexico, due to proximity. I think that makes sense, and I think in the major international locations, it hasn't had a chance to reach them yet ... it'll start happening soon.

But the similarity you point out to the 1918 thing is probably a more-valid (and scary) theory than mine.
