One thing I would look at is PD dialysis if she's not going to be living alone.

It's a different type than the traditional and is way easier on him then traditional dialysis. He does it at home while he sleeps rather than going to a center 3 days per week.
But she has to be trained to do it and she can't live alone in case something hiccups. Nothing ever has but they want someone else there to help if it does.
Plus, he lives in a rural area so it's a bit of a trek to the nearest center which is something your mom may not have to worry about :)
