In response to "Since you're talking about a lot of my family and some of my friends, I'm going to try again to help you understand where they are coming from." by ReluctantCynic

This isn't my thread but I'm hoping in...

I'm absolutely these people's worst kind of person because I've totally written them off. They're dangerous with their amorphous fear of *hand wavey* something.

The fact that they elected literally the most dangerous person in my life time to be President is a real and justified fear.

History is replete with examples of what happens when people act out of unspecified fear. What happens next is entirely on them. I blame them. I think now it's a matter of numbers. Either they have enough votes or the other side does. The time for reconciliation is over. We tried the Purple States of America Guy and that was roundly rejected. Ok then. Let's fight this one out.

I'm really trying to moderate myself here, I've probably failed but then again - I don't have much moderation left in me. But know that I respect your view even though I think it asks too much of the elitists, who are always coo'ed at that they need to "understand" irrational fear of others. I said this a few weeks back - if I were to sit at the kitchen table across from someone from the Fly-Over States I'd ask, "what do you specifically think you're not getting and what do you specifically want?" They rarely have an answer to that, not one I've seen.

I admire your willingness to rationally explain the origins of what just happened. I know I'm not part of a calm and peaceful solution but I din't think that's possible any longer so I'm fine with it.

While I respect and admire the presentation I'm admittedly not receptive. As I said above - there's a real rift in this country and the time for reconciliation is long over. And I don't feel remorse over feeling this way. This country, like most others, has examples where compromise was not used as a means to resolve an issue. The Civil Rights movement in the 50s and 60s for example were won by one side simply out mobilizing the other. I see the same thing here. There's all but a real culture war that began with this election.
