LIR - Strongbad - the lecture last night was on the use of Lidar to identify Mayan ruins under the forest canopy in Guatemala and Belize. It was

remarkable effective when the results were compared to already identified structures - and quicker and less strenuous than slogging through the forest on ground surveys :)

Due to its 3D format it's not as effective for ground features such as roads but these can be identified during ground-truthing.

The new age of archaeology :-)
