the dwarves that live stay at Erebor, so only Bilbo and Gandalf are left to roam and they alone (other than the dwarves) know the location of the troll's treasure cave....

why didn't Bilbo go load up on that?

I know, I know, Bilbo wasn't interested in riches (he declined his full share of Erebor) but he sure did like comfort

It seems like a waste of a perfectly good troll treasure unless Gandalf snuck back to get some moola to buy wizard bling
