If you get a chance, read, "The Arms of Krupp"

it goes into the history of the Krupp arms manufacturer (the makers of Big Bertha from WWII, etc). It went from a small arms maker to one of the biggest producers of steal in German (maybe the world, for a time) and artillery for the German Army. It's a fascinating look into how arms manufacture influences events.
