(it turned out that the link didn't work on my phone or in chrome, but it did in IE.)

and all that's needed to keep it going is using the message app on my phone... which makes no sense, as I was using it regularly when I received the warning, grr; but now I know I should periodically login to the online version to make sure this doesn't happen again. hopefully.
(for anyone else with the contacts thing, you can save them and export/import to other services, I added them to google contacts.)
