there was a Russian Officer who saw incoming missiles sometime in the 80s.

Protocol dictated that he essentially start the launch sequence at which point missiles get launched quickly. For some reason his instinct told him to check again. Turns out it was a glitch. Had he followed protocol we'd all be living in a waste land.
It's a flimsy hope, that if presented with an order by Trump to launch that there might be some extra discussion but I hope that's the case...
