I dont know. By constantly undermining trust in even "legitimate media" which seems to work for a meaningful portion of the population, it provides

cover for whatever is reported and inspires undying loyalty among his supporters who think he is being wronged. I hate to go there, but this is right out of the Nazi playbook. He's creating an argument that he is the only thing that can be believed so it's imperative that you follow so you aren't cheated. Look at the way they've co-opted the phrase "fake news". This was news created and disseminated that was aimed at getting him elected. But he's turned the phrase on legitimate news that reports info he doesn't like or gets anything not 100% verifiably true. It's creating his own narrative that a meaningful portion of the population swallows. Obviously it's up to the rest of us to combat it, but it divides the country.
