I agree that the election was more about Sec. Clinton than Trump.

And I'm not saying the Trump campaign (now largely morphed into the White House staff) didn't get lucky at times.
But no political campaign of any size these days wins by pure luck. You can't be the equivalent of a wandering boar in the forest luckily rooting out enough truffles to win.
They saw something that either no one else did or the other very talented, very seasoned, very smart and educated politicos -- across the board -- saw too late. And that "something" wasn't just a single event, a single public mood sentiment, or anything else individually.
They managed to see a pattern of public sentiment sufficient to pull off a victory in the Electoral College. That amounted to a very narrow victory, and an actual loss in terms of national public opinion, but they won.
I think it would be to our detriment to view them as folks who just got lucky.
