It's enough of a pattern that I've noticed it.
I don't see much difference in the way EE would be treated on ST than "an anonymous conservative who was Never Trump but now is not".
I think it's better to disclose the source, and then discuss the actual argument - in this case, that it's better for your sort of Republicans to go along with Trump than not.
