Cruise story. About 8:30 pm on the second to the last day of our cruise (was a sea day no stops that day)

The captain breaks in over the emergency channel that pumps audio into the rooms. Most times information is only given in the hallway speakers a couple times a day so that anyone in the cabin isn't disturbed by it.

They had a patient in critical condition and needed blood to give the patient a blood transfusion. The donor needed to have type O- blood and have a donor card with them.

So that didn't apply to us, we don't have that type blood.

I was thinking though. If you need something like that out in the middle of nowhere, I wonder what the odds of a good outcome would be?

We never found out what happened to the patient. Good or bad.

On an ironic note: We were on Princess Cruise line, and they have a lot of streaming video content. One of the things they offer is a bunch of old Love Boat episodes. We watched a bunch but one had Gary Burghoff from MASH as a ship employee that left his child in the Captain's room anonymously because he couldn't care for it after the death of his wife. The story concludes that they need the father for a rare Blood Transfusion AB- or something and he comes forward and saves the child.

My comment to my wife. They would never do a blood transfusion on a cruise ship that's a silly story line. Uh, Wrong!!
