One of the fascinating things about Trump is his ability to say things that confront the Republican way of thinking and essentially go unchallenged

9/11 happened on Bush's watch
The Iraq war was a disaster
And now, America is not a force for moral good
It's similar to his "I could shoot someone on 5th Avenue and not lose a vote" quote except the only people who are offended are in his party - and I think the reason he can get away with it is that everyone knows these things are basically true, but couldn't really be talked about openly among conservatives.
