the trailer made it out like the people he talks to were manifestations of Love, Time, etc.
The reality is that the movie is all about his business partners (norton/winslet/the other guy) who hire actors to play those parts to trick/get Smith to come back to work
There's a small part at the end where they try to make you think they were the manifestations posing as the actors
