Oroville Dam News - Luckily, we have a dry forecast for the next two days. However, heavy rain is supposed to come back Wed thru the weekend

The DWR is trying to get Oroville lake down to a level of around 850 feet, which is 50 feet below the spillover.

Problem is two fold. The main spillway is damaged from erosion from heavy flow. They shut it down for a couple of days to assess the damage.

This caused the emergency spillway to be activated. It hasn't been used since the dam opened 50 years ago. On Saturday, it was triggered. Erosion was caused starting to go under the emergency spillway. And if that would have failed, a 30 foot wall of water would have been sent down the feather river. Not good

That is what caused the evacuation. The dam is 30 miles SE of me with a few hills in the way, so I had no problem

The hope is to get the water low enough so the emergency spillway isn't activated again and the main spillway is damaged any further.

Pray for good weather
