it is a reason for some/in some areas; but people feeling they don't have enough money to bank is the most common reason given (in fdic and pew studies, referenced in what I've read and I'm sure in a bunch of what I linked) for not having a bank account.
an even bigger group than those with no bank account is what are called "underbanked" people meaning at least one person in a household has an account but they use alternates like check cashing services/payday loans/etc., too.
there needs to be more than just more bank locations, it has to be banks that serve more people - from lower fees to small loans without the crazy high rates.
