The main aspect of it that makes sense is that we have seen Peter handle a gem and we know his origins have been tweaked, so it makes sense that he might be the one that can handle the gauntlet once it is taken from Thanos. That is assuming it follows the story in that Thanos wipes out half the universe, etc and the damage has to be undone by someone.
