A real weakness in the chain of events in ensuring the Oscar goes to the right party, seems to be the fact that on each side of the stage there stands

A pwc representative with each holding duplicate copies of the winners envelopes.
Which means there's no actual process to double check that the right envelope has been given.
I assume it's done like this to accommodate the presenters alighting the stage from different sides throughout the show.
