I don't think not standing up in front of a judge (or priest, or whoever) and having the ceremony done makes you any less qualified to be a parent.

it's a ceremony that's totally meaningless to some people, and forcing them to do it just so they can adopt a kid is beyond pointless.
aside from that, I'd trust some of my single friends with children a lot more than any two of some of the married ones.
