The hope is that the ref/official in the booth upstairs catches the mistake and buzzes down before a team can score, especially more than once.

But if you have to take points off the board and go back that's what you do to make it right.
I'm okay with coaches getting to challenge a call but I still want an official watching the replays and buzzing down when they've missed an obvious call.
