This may be the case. The Switch makes it difficult to restart or shut down. You have to hold the power button for a while. Otherwise, it wants to be

put into sleep mode. Holding down HOME brings up the menu to do that. Or going to the power icon on the home screen does that too. No mention of either unless you hold down that physical button.
