I'm not interested in compromise, I'm interested in winning the argument, and part of that (IMO) is getting more discussion, not less.

I don't want to tell people what to think, I want other people to think for themselves "this other guy is a complete racist/sexist/bigot".
Also, I think there are more people on the sideline than you think, but because they don't pay a lot of attention they have a weird logic. eg Obama is elected, racists get upset, sideline people say "racial divides are a lot worse under Obama"
