Among other changes the sky looks a bit different )I know it's lighter with more stars at night.), the trainer page layout has changed, eggs reportedly show location and date acquired (though date seems to be bugged) and Pokedex entries now have buttons for gender and shiny. Though the gender thing only applies to post-December catches and I don't think shiny Pokemon have been added yet, but you'll be able to tell if you've caught both genders now.
If you're of the mass evolve and trash playtype you may want to keep at least one of each gender. Or at least keep a female of those that are 7:1 male. Probably come in handy if/when they add breeding. You probably want to keep any shiny Pokemon as well. They will likely be highly valued if/when trading becomes a thing.
The 7:1 male list is all the starters (including the Gen 2 starters Chikorita, Totodila and Cyndaquil), Eevee, Omanyte, Kabuto, Aerodactyl, Snorlax, Togepi and all of their related evolutions.
Magnemite, Voltorb, Staryu, Porygon, their evolutions, Ditto and Unown have no gender. Ditto can apparently breed with (almost?) anything. Unown is very rare and there is one for every letter of the alphabet.
