Probably, right?
Responses:
doubtful - the main improvement is from going to p from i, which std def TVs can't handle. -- nm

minimal i'm guessing because your max resolution on standard def is only 480 -- nm

I thought I had heard that upgrading to Blu-Ray had a decent image difference, even not on an HDTV. Thought this might be a similar effect. -- nm

Although, that is probably due to filming on better cameras. For movies on DVD, that is already a high quality picture source.

But I was told 480 is superior to 1080. -- nm

480 means the pixels are bigger, and everyone knows that bigger is better. -- nm
