Either the boyfriend was involved (i.e. he beat her and she tried to cover it up with a story) or it was his idea to vilify black people or she's trying to get out of the engagement and somehow this seemed like a reasonable out, or even that she's sleeping around and she got found out so she said "No, they were raping me! Honest!"
