You're getting old is what's going on. Welcome to the club. :)

With the family history, any significant increase from an already high baseline would be worrying I'd think. Depending on how high we're talking about, might be able to make an impact with diet and exercise. Statins are my next option if it's not down (ldl<130) next month when I go back.
