uber/lyft requires you to *have* a car, and a nice one at that...taxi they rent for half a day 'gate fee' whatever beater they have running

we had a friend in san fran, had the shittiest 'thrift' shop around, crap worse than you'd find in the bottom of a goodwill bin they didn't even want. how could his old fart make a living.
well he was a loan shark, his 'shop' was right next door to one of the cab co. drivers needing the gate fee, $40 in those days, would get it from him, had to repay 50 next day. he also laundered credit cards for hookers before they could get their own, until his friends on the vice squad told him he was being investigated by the card co for violating TOS, something like that. he used to tell us that the statements on the client's cards would list catering services so wives wouldn't get too suspicious.
