I don't I ever knew it as Tenerife. I remember it being covered as the Canary Islands accident / disaster

I was also 8 so I might have missed that part of the coverage.
I do remember seeing all the diagrams in Time and Newsweek as well animations of how the KLM plane took the top off of the Pan Am plane.
That and how it was two 747s with full passenger loads 8(
