Yes, I eventually gathered that. It's generally safe to assume United is in the wrong, though.

Also odds are good that the "proper attire" directives are sexist in some way.
I think part of the thing that set people off is that the one girl who had clothes to change into ... those clothes just happened to be a dress. It's not like United said "put on a dress", but I think a few people short-circuited that logic.
