I haven't thought seriously about law in 10 years, and I didn't use the word 'precedent' correctly

To clarify, in the Australian system, a decision by a Canadian court is more persuasive than a decision by a US court.

I expect this would be the same in other countries - the UK, New Zealand, etc - with Westminster-style governments.
