It's not as simple as that since a lot of guys are paid to drive the ball and hit for power. That tends to mean they'll pull the ball to one side -- (edited)

of the field. If you try and just go against the shift you're going against your natural swing and the way you generate the most power. Some guys can go to both sides of the field and some would lose out on their ability to drive the ball. You don't want your power hitters slapping singles. You want them putting it over the wall and today that means ground outs that should be singles and legit singles turned into outs because of the shift. That's the price you pay to stick with your swing and the power.
