If the answer is yes...that's the point.

Within 2 years (if not shorter), you had 3 key characters that society knows now via billion dollar movies, all replaced for a time with different demographic characters.

The reason people are saying "My character has been replaced" is their characters have been replaced.

There has to be better ways to get new diverse characters in the universe than replacing very highly visible fan favorites, even for a short time.
