Also, you get a lot of good discounts from NY because it's easy to convince people to go there, so airlines want to fly there, which means discounts

That's true of some other places - Chicago, Miami, etc - but not true of some other big cities. Dallas, St Louis, Minneapolis, etc. (What I mean is, there are plenty of people in Europe who would jump on, say, a cheap fare from Europe to NY, but would not do the same for a cheap fare to Charlotte.) Traffic to those places would be people travelling for business and people visiting friends and relatives - people who have less choice about where they travel.
Also, do cities on the West Coast get access to cheap flights to Europe?
