I've had two (well, not $300, but getting up there) that were. But I think it may be a bit of a Toronto thing.

People go to places because they are popular, not necessarily because the food is good. Also people queue for anything here. It's a big city and people are used to waiting for things that are scarce, and if they see a queue they assume whatever is being sold is good, when chances are its just hype and marketing. Hour-long queues for cheesecake are not uncommon - and people keep the bag and use it for other things to show that they've been.

I didn't care for how the article was written, but the argument (at least for Toronto) wasn't far off.
