First mistake was doing it after the plane was loaded. But I agree it's tough. Yes, offer more money until someone takes it, but that gets harder

once on the plane. I do think the airline needs a better alternative punishment for someone who refuses to leave the plane. Financial penalty for not honoring the terms of the contract. Let someone know if they don't get off the plane their credit card will be charged for another $500 (or something like that). But on some level I agree, you can't just let the guy who refuses to get off get away with it or nobody will ever get off. They just didn't try enough alternatives first.
