I've had good luck just throwing things in. If you want to brown the meat first, you can do it in there, but the pressure does a good job

I never precook my meat when using a crock pot, but wasn't sure if I needed to do it with this.

I did a beef stew each way. They were both good. The non-browned one had a lighter flavor. -- nm
