He tried to turn people against the guy with subtle hate speech. When it backfired immediately, he realized what he'd done and (to his credit) appreciated the monstrous nature of his actions.
Still, Probst is a big buddy of Varner and has championed his return these two times and even HE was like, "Get the fuck out of here."
