Varner made a colossal tactical blunder. Just colossal. Instantaneously turned every player & probst against him. He realized the enormity of what he'd done after a few minutes. Even though he tried to defend himself at first, he came to realize it was indefensible.
I think maybe he thought that being "out of the closet" is liberating for a trans person in the same way as it is for gay people, but in reality it's sort of the opposite of that. For a trans person, living as their biological gender is the closet. The liberation is being able to live and be recognized as the gender they grew into, without the cloud of transphobia descending on them.
