The pilot is going to be weak. Think back to the pilot for "TNG" or even "DS9" ("Voyager" was a bit better). But there's good elements here with nods to Star Trek mythology. The uniforms are "Enterprise" blue, but they're migrating to "TOS" (which is right for the timeline). And there's that weird stuff with the Klingons, suggesting they're going to be looking a bit at the evolution of the Klingons and how they were affected by that virus we saw in "Enterprise".
