Smallpox... The black plague... they wiped out millions. I figure space exploration would involve days - nay, years! - of atmospheric sampling before you'd let someone on the surface without a spacesuit. Heck, I think an early episode of Enterprise ran into the same spore pathogen scenario. Traveling to another continent can be deadly. Another WORLD? Definitely.
Also, don't land in the middle of a hurricane. Just saying.
