So much of republican federal downsizing is simply pushing the burdens to state and local governments. I never understand why that seems like an ok

answer. Why would an individual be better off with higher state taxes offsetting lower federal taxes. Not to mention that different states have different abilities to bear the burden so it usually just mean lots of people just get hurt rather than the burden actually being picked up. And at local levels, taxing is often more difficult and particularly regressive (sales taxes, fees and fines, etc.)
