Answer to B2, what the tenants were doing

making kim-chee

not only did it stink, they were attempting to speed up the fermentation process a bit by putting these big heavy pots on the stove and heating them

the pots being way too large for what they wanted done kept burning out burners on the stove and thats why the handyman got sent over there
