The paper’s findings are preliminary and have not yet been subjected to peer review. And the authors stressed that even if their results hold up, their research leaves important questions unanswered.

From the article, average compensation decreased, even as wages went up, due to reduced number of jobs. -- (edited)

It seems to me that it would be an important inflection point though, when the total earnings of labor decrease, even as per-hour wages go up. -- (edited)

the study linked in your post is by Berkeley and it focused exclusively on restaurants...UW did the other one and it looked across a broader range -- nm
