"Update after rounds this am: head of neurosurgery says no to surgery, wouldn't be helpful. They showed me cat scan w/ the fracture on left side and contusion on right, exactly across from break ( sloshing affect from hit). Still a waiting game, but I asked what potential results because of placement of injury= speech & language, which dr said could be why he isn't acting on verbal prompts to wiggle toes or thumbs up.
John's gift of speech & oration may be different. I can't even think that w/o weeping. I fell in love with him because of his words. This could be a huge change, but I am thankful his life was spared. It may mean no more lecture attacks. No more of his beautiful writing. It may necessitate a different way of communicating. I want to learn more about what this means but also to stay hopeful & optimistic. He is doing so well in so many ways. Your continued prayers on his behalf are appreciated. I am thinking we should all be wearing helmets all the time we are in cars, just for safety. May our experience be an object lesson for why your kids should bike with a helmet. I might just go find my bike helmet & walk around wearing it for awhile. That's kind of a joke. I am seriously hoping for some more miracles. There have been many, & I grateful, but still sad, too."
