not everyone agrees on the origin nor how it should be implemented (just at temple or all the time), but the talmud has head-covering

for so long that it's become a tradition, at least while in a temple, for most everyone.

that's the kind of thing I don't mind as much, even if it originally may have been to distinguish jews from non.
