Median rent in NYC is there as well but you can still find plenty of places for $1,600 a month and they're nice places.

I've seen 1 bedrooms at the price in Manhattan, Brooklyn and Queens. Sure, they're not Chelsea or the West Village but they're less than an hour by train to midtown and are in clean, nice neighborhoods.
They don't need to live in the best areas of D.C.
