The thing about the legal fees is that it's usually just somebody threatening legal action.

I've been threatened with lawsuits more times than I can count, starting with Showbizdata way back when if people even remember them from the early days of HSX. I've yet to be sued.
Your brother's reply should use the phrase typosquatter. Their response to that word will go a long way in showing their endgame.
