Too complacent, IMO. People who believe in liberal policies like globalisation, free trade, etc need to be more aggressive in promoting the links

between these policies and the economic benefits that are enjoyed by the same people who complain about them.

And they need to come up with better ways of supporting/providing opportunity for those people who lose out or are left behind by those policies.

And also, I think they need to do a better job of getting people to to recognise how much they benefit from government - in particular the benefits provided to people who can afford to do without them, which are protected by both sides of politics. The protection of Medicare while Medicaid is being slashed, is a good example. Keeping the mortgage interest tax credit while slashing public housing is another. (The progressive push towards free college education will be another)
