It's clear to me now that Chips Ahoy! cookies in the large "family sized" packages are prepared at a different plant or line than those in the smaller

Those in the larger packages are baked a little bit longer, are a little bit darker, and are extra crispy. This is the PREFFERED preparation of Chips Ahoy! cookies. They good out of the pantry or refridgerated, with or without milk.
As an aside, soft chocolate chip cookies are the devil and if you like that sort of thing, we can't be friends.
